Girls Gown Bad

Much more than
a simple affair of style

Girls Gown Bad

Yvana and Jo are two sisters who seemingly have nothing in common. While you might spot Yvana in the streets of Geneva wearing to perfection the trendy boots that everyone has been dying to get, Jo won’t go unnoticed either, rocking her 10 year’s old Doc Martens like no one else. But hang in there, there’s much more to the sister duo than an affair of style!
Both having studied and worked abroad – Yvana in the hectic cities of Milano, London, Paris and Jo electing the Dutch cities of the Hague and Amsterdam as her home away from home, the sisters finally reunited in their home town to start a new adventure together.

Whereas Jo dedicated her Masters degree in social and cultural Anthropology to studying changes in consumption, Yvana pursued her Masters studies in the fields of fashion and luxury.
Hand in hand, the sisters launched Girls Gown Bad, a forward-thinking company that rents designer dresses and gowns, maximizing the otherwise short lifespan of partywear clothing. Girls Gown Bad represents the sisters’ appreciation for upscale clothing, femininity and luxury as much as their will to challenge current consumption habits and explore new ways of consuming and “doing fashion”.

THE SHOWROOM

The party girls’ dream closet in Geneva

Located in the heart of Geneva, in the historic Rue Jean Calvin, Girls Gown Bad’s showroom is as trendy, classy and stylish as the gowns and party outfits it hosts. Our space has been thoughtfully designed to create an intimate atmosphere and offer a unique experience. We like to say it was designed by women for women as we put femininity at the core of our identity.

A step inside the showroom and clients are immersed in a sumptuous atmosphere symbolized by velvet accents, golden details and pastel colors. The showroom, reminding of an intimate boudoir, is also full of jewelry and accessories for sale to embellish and style your dresses. From simple, effortless looks to the most extravagant, elaborate and glamorous outfits, Girls Gown Bad serves zesty and dazzling looks! We always make it a priority to please our ladies’ tastes and moods. Last but not least: the collection is even wider there than it is online!

On a mission
to redefine the meaning of Fashion

When talking about renting, we hardly ever talk about Fashion and clothes. Yet, Swiss people buy around 60 new items per year, while 40% of their wardrobe is worn only 0 to 4 times. Taking a step back, one can ask why not rent these wear-it-once kind of clothes?
Renting is an activity renowned for its ecological dimension – consisting of maximizing the number of times garments are worn by renting one item to various consumers. It also grants access to the wardrobe of your dreams for a reasonable price. It is an opportunity to reinvent oneself endlessly by trying out new styles and outfits, each more sumptuous than the other.

Most importantly, we see clothing rental as an opportunity to disrupt old consumption habits. It is not just another invitation to quench our infinite thirst for newness and maintain the current spirit of over-consumption. We intentionally chose partywear because these clothes are subject to under-use (especially with the rising importance of social media), legitimizing the logic of renting instead of buying them.
By renting one’s outfit for the night, consumers take responsibility by asking themselves: do I really need to own this item? – a reflection process to stick with during their future purchases.

In light of the environmental and social havoc wreaked by the fashion industry, sustainability a mission we must all embark on. So why not start now, and do it with style!
Let it be known that at GGB, we never miss a chance to bring a touch of glam and sparkle to your evenings. Our aim is to reconcile eco-responsibility with current fashion, encouraging a consumption system where fashion and luxury aren't just about snagging the latest trendy pieces from popular brands.
